Travel with The Met's Keith Christiansen on an in-depth, behind-the-scenes look at the incredible art legacy of the Camino de Santiago, following in the footsteps of peregrinos (pilgrims) who have journeyed along "the Way of St. James'' since medieval times. A highlight will be full access to the Catedral BasÃlica de Santiago de Compostela, the resting place of the legendary apostle in northwestern Spain and the Camino's final destination. The cathedral's thrilling Botafumeiro incense-burning ceremony will be performed specially for our group. You will also enjoy inside looks at UNESCO World Heritage Sites and other exquisite cathedrals along the route, discovering their stunningly crafted altarpieces, Flemish retablos and tapestries, colorful religious murals, and much more. A special private tour of the Frank Gehry-designed contemporary art museum, the Museo Guggenheim Bilbao, will begin this exclusive program. Walks along the Camino are optional.
